Palm Springs is located 107 miles east of Los Angeles on the western edge of the Coachella Valley in Central Riverside County. The natural beauty of the area has entranced many a newcomer. In the 1860s, the area now known as Palm Springs was little more than a rest station on the stagecoach line linking New Mexico with Los Angeles. Some twenty years later, permanent settlers quickly formed a residential community and the area was recognized as Palm Springs in 1876.
